Sure I had fun listening and selling tickets on the first two nights but I was glad to have my guitar in my hands last night.

The second time I performed with Ben Grossman was as exciting as the first. High content of the unknown as we are just getting to know each other (musically and personally) Ben's wide ranging stylistic (and non stylistic) musical abilities are an incredible thing and I can't wait to hear him play or perform with him again soon.

We had special guest Debashis Sinha sit in on drums which was a real treat. On a personal level I was extra happy with the computer spoken word stuff I brought. Especially the improv, telephone poem by ron gaskin.

The second set was easily one of my favourites during the festival; ATM + Guy were great. I said they sounded like the Beatles (only half jokingly) The subtleties that came across in their big noise sound were so beautiful.

the beatles part for me was their joy and friendship on stage that made it extra special, (especially for my preconceived notions of an electronic noise band)

thanks to all. Cant wait for tonight.

How many alto players does it take to change a light bulb? I don't know, but having Brodie West and John Oswald both on a double bill was a great thing. The stage-to-audience dialogue between Brodie and John during the Porkchops set was hilarious and brilliant. Exciting to hear a trio like Porkchops communicate using jazz as the main language with so much deep listening.

Before them, Clutton/Bourne/Oswald played a beautiful improv set with "deep listening" cellist Anne Bourne punctuating most improvised sections with her beautiful voice. A highlight for me being the tension caused by a somewhat obvious decrescendo ending being drawn out to become some sort of penultimate coda followed by a similar but different suprise ending.

Just when I thought I had become familiar with John Oswald's always interesting saxophone style, the opportunity to perform with two bowed instruments seemed to inspire him in totally new directions.

Hope to see you tonight for my set with Hurdy Gurdy player Ben Grossman followed by ATM+Guy.

Opening night of the Grand Festival was great. Good attendance for a cold and rainy wednesday night. Lots of good music and happy people.

Eric Chenaux played a beautiful set of original songs seemingly inspired by his love of English folk music combined with his natural abilities with improvised music. (interesting combination!) His bowed guitar piece was some of the most beautiful guitar playing i have ever heard.

runcible spoon was a lot of fun, as always. Last night had Tania Gill on fender rhodes and Lina Allemano sitting in with her warm and unique trumpet voice where the viola usually sits in this band. My fave piece was the Dave Clark composition they did and I was happy and pleasantly suprised they played my piece called Foxtrot.

See you tonight for Clutton/Bourne/Oswald and then Porkchops. www.grandfestival.blogspot.com

Was great to be at the Santa Claus Parade yesterday. I walked through all the marching bands while they were warming up. Next year I will record this as it was amazing. Listening to that many musicians playing different things at the same time.

Great vibe in the air too. Happy families, kids smiling.

I have to get out and do some last minute postering for the Grand Festival too.

please drop me an email and tell me which nights you think you are attending:
